London to Artic Circle – part I

I set off from London with my friend Ryan, cycling with me for the first two days up to Dover. The very first day was quite exhausting. We tried to avoid the London City and went South but the rolling hills and country lanes tired me out. However, after the channel crossing it was mostly flat until I reached the northern part of Denmark.

This was also a good opportunity to meet some of my friends and past students along the way, in Brusssels, Amsterdam and Enschede. Generally the ride was along the country side, quite green, especially riding on the bicycle lanes was more relaxing. Bremen city centre was an interesting place to visit. Apart from this, generally nothing spectacular. My main aim was to get to Norway at the earliest. I am just a day’s ride away to the South of Norway where I expect a lot more scenery.

Total 1229 km: London – Hollingbourne, 99.69k – Dover 68 – Dunkirk (ferry) – Ostend (70) – Rotterdam (train) – Amsterdam (78) – Apledoorn (104) – Enschede (68) – Lonningen (96) – Bremen (92) – Krautsand Strand (103) – Jagel (102) – Haderslev (109) – Torring (78) – Viborg (74) – Aalborg (88)
